Spdy.me was conceptualized at about the same time Twitter started getting really popular (mid-2008) by Jason Korkin of Safe Data Technologies (an open source development firm).

Knowing there was a need for short URL's because of Twitter's 140 character limit was just the start. There were already lots of "other" link shortening services out there, but we wanted to be different.

So we got started in late 2008 with Spdy.me which included: link shortening, our Bookmarklet, Web Widget, our Anywhere Bookmark list, and of course, Twitter integration.

Our concept is simple - put a small advertisment at the top of each page you visit using Spdy.me. It shows for a few seconds, and if you or your friends click on it, you will get paid a percentage of ad revenue.
